Mr. William E. “Bill” Grammer, 84, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, in Pensacola. He was a native of Tuscaloosa County. He was a retired Eastern Airline pilot, retiring in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He served in various positions with Eastern and was an F.A.A. authorized “designee examiner.” He was promoted to captain in 1968 where he served as a line pilot, instructor and flight training manager until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Grammer; his mother, Bessie Grammer; three brothers, Hugh, Clarence and Perry Grammer; and three grandchildren, David and Greg Gay, and Jay Bennett of Newnan, Ga.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Chris Grammer of Milton; three daughters, Charlotte (Joel) Gay and Andrea Bennett of Newnan, and Sherrer Grammer of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Phillip T. Grammer of Washington, D.C.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth (Scott) Katz of Newnan and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Finklea officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
