A Brewton mother of two surprised her children with a homecoming that won't soon be forgotten.
SSG. Elizabeth Rose returned from a nine-month tour of duty in Iraq May 16 to surprise her family and friends at the Calvary's Way Church in Brewton.
Rose was deployed to Iraq from Camp Shelby in Mississippi in August 2006. She has been deployed to other locations previouslym making the total time away from her children nearly three years.
Elizabeth and her husband, William, have two children. Cody is 6 and Jesse is 8.
Although Rose was unable to attend an awards ceremony for her son, she did make it home in time for the awards ceremony for Jesse, who is a second-grader at W.S. Neal Elementary School.
Rose also spent time in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm in 1990-91, but that was before marriage and children.
