Mr. Robert Benson Cunningham Sr., 55, died recently. He was a native of Escambia County, Ala., and a 1970 graduate of Southern Normal High School. He had been employed with Jefferson Smurfit for 35 years before his health failed. He was a member of Second St. Siloam Baptist Church, Progressive Lodge 943 and the March Tribe called Gad. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Rodney Lanier.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna Cunningham; four sons, Rodney, Robert Jr., Justin and Samailtan Cunningham; one stepson, Savkie Johnson; two daughters, Angela and Tonya Jackson; five grandchildren, Derrick Thomas, Robert Benson Cunningham III, Cordaryl Edward Jackson, Arkeem Jamal Jackson and Ronald Rodney Young; a brother, Alex Charles Cunningham; a sister, Mary (Leon) Neard of Evergreen; a mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Jackson Sr.; brothers-in-law, James (Cassie) Jackson Sr., John (Callie) Jackson of Brewton, William Mac (Betty) Jackson of Augusta, Ga., Helen Floyd, Hermine (Emanuel) Hall, Sharon (Ronald) Collins, all of Brewton; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 24, at 1 p.m. at Second St. Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie J. Blue officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
