Mr. Alton Lamar Godwin, 75, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in a local healthcare facility. He was a native and life long resident of Castleberry. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the U.S. Army. He was retired from Castleberry Logging Company and was a member of the Downing Masonic Lodge 580 in Castleberry.
He is survived by his wife, Mamie Godwin of Castleberry; a son, Richard Lamar Godwin of Castleberry; three sisters, Virginia Johnson, Mary Ellington and Julie Day, all of Gautier, Miss.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Godbee officiating. Burial followed at Buffington Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Chris Godwin, Ben Downs Jason Dees, Tommy Baggett, Matt Wilson and Billy Godwin.
