David Maddox has seen just about every role there is to have with coaching Little League All-Stars.
He was an assistant coach for the Brewton 9-10s team that won the district championship in 2004. The next year he moved into the head coach position for that level and guided Brewton to a district runner-up spot. Last year he managed the Brewton age 10-11 all-stars to a district crown and a state tournament berth. This summer he is experiencing life with Little League's other age division as head coach for the Brewton age 11-12 all-stars.
Maddox's son, Wesley, is the only member of the Brewton 11-12s who has played all-stars in each of the last four years. However, seven of the players have been on all-star teams under Maddox's direction for the past three years.
None of Maddox's all-star teams have had the luxury of playing a game in Brewton. This year the district tournament is being held in Evergreen. Brewton kicks off play Saturday with a 6 p.m. game against Flomaton.
Maddox said his team has bonded together quickly.
Maddox admits there is some pressure on this year's team since most of the members of the 11-12s were members of last year's Brewton 10-11s team that won the district championship.
