The Thomas E. McMillan Museum at Jefferson Davis Community College is presenting an exhibition of photographs from the work of Eugene Allen Smith, a state geologist for Alabama more than 54 years.
Smith cleared the way for the development and utilization of the state's natural resources by discovering, mapping and publicizing the rich mineral deposits in Alabama. The exhibit has pictures of rural Alabama from 1885 through 1910 including rare photos of mineral springs and their hotels, ferries and river landings, farms and early industrial sites.
The museum is open Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The exhibit will be on display through July 20.
