City hosts successful tournament
Earlier this year Brewton Babe Ruth was just putting together 16-18 and 16-year-old teams, and now the local league is wrapping up a successful state tournament and wishing the 16-18 team well as they head to North Carolina for the Southeast Regional Tournament.
Talk about a whirlwind.
We're proud of our local league for having hosted such a successful tournament, especially since Brewton has not hosted such a state tournament since 1991.
Despite the rain, the events went fairly smoothly, and our community had the chance to show off for visiting teams.
In fact, Babe Ruth officials said they are looking to host more tournaments in the future, perhaps as soon as 2009.
We hope we'll be able to land more events like the state tournament, because they give us a chance to show off our south Alabama hospitality and they are also a boon to our economy.
The visitors who come to Brewton stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and shop in our gas stations and stores. That money circulates in our community, and the sales tax dollars help our city government - and in turn all of us.
We're proud of all of the Little League and Babe Ruth teams and All-Stars for their performances this year, and we wish our local players well as they continue on to state and regional tournaments in coming days and weeks.
We hope that they will take a sense of sportsmanship and pride with them as they represent their community.
