The road came to an end for the Brewton Advanced Babe Ruth Age 16-18 All-Stars Sunday when they were ousted in the third round of the Southeast Regional played at Tarboro, N.C. with a 7-3 loss to Cookeville, Tenn.
Brewton won its opening game of the tournament Friday when it blanked Crystal Coast, N.C., but fell 11-0 to Wilson County, N.C. Saturday and Cookeville Sunday.
An RBI single by Chris Griffin and an RBI sacrifice by Jake Dixon in the fifth gave Brewton a 3-1 lead.
Cookeville came back in the bottom half of the fifth with a four-run rally to grab a 5-3 lead. Cookeville tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth where it extended its advantage to 7-3.
Allen Williams went five innings for Brewton and took the loss before Josh Sawyer finished things up.
Although Sunday's loss knocked his team from the tournament, Salter feels his team's overall tournament performance has raised the bar for future Brewton teams.
