Escambia County's chapter of the University of Alabama Alumni Association will be selling copies of a new coffee table book about the university to help raise money for the local chapter's scholarship fund.
The new book &#8220Crimson” - the first of its kind for the university - will feature photos by senior UA photographer Chip Cooper and others, as well as quotes from well-known graudates including Bart Starr, E.O. Wilson, Sela Ward, Winston Groom and Gay Talese.
The 160-page, 12-inch square book will be ready for delivery by early December, which makes it a good Christmas gift idea, said Annette Crenshaw, who heads the scholarship committee for the county alumni chapter.
Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of the books by the local chapter will benefit the scholarship fund.
Through Friday, the cost of the standard edition of the book will be $48 if ordered through the local chapter. Crenshaw said anyone interested in ordering the book can call her at 867-2211. The regular price of the standard edition will be $60.
The limited edition of &#8220Crimson” will be $125 and will be bound in fine crimson linen with a photograph of Denny Chimes hand-applied to the cover.
The special order edition also has gilded edges and is contained in a matching linen slipcase embossed with the university seal.
