Jefferson Davis Community College volleyball coach Misti Nims expects a good year from her team in the upcoming season.
Nims said with five returning players this year and a field of seven freshmen, the team has enough experience to produce a winning season.
Returning players this year include Cathy Phillips, Meagan Petrie
Jacqueline Slay, Amanda Pullen and Emily Doty. Freshmen on the team are Brittany Rogers, Jessica Johnson, Jamica Thomas and Kirby Johnson.
The team will begin their season with a game against Gadsden State Community College in Gadsden on Aug. 24. A season opener will also be held in Gadsden Aug. 25, according to Nims.
The JDCC team will play a 24-game schedule for the season as well as three tournament events. Tournaments will be placed at Pensacola Junior College Sept. 7 and 8 with a tournament at Faulkner University in Montgomery on Sept. 21 and 22.
The season will end with tournament action at the state level Nov. 3 and 4 with location and time for the event to be announced at a later date.
Among the teams JDCC will compete against this year are Gulf Coast Community College, Lawson State, Bevill State, Southern Union, North Lake, Pensacola Junior College, Central Alabama, Wallace State of Hanceville and Selma, Faulkner University, Faulkner State and Northwest Shoals.
