If they are looking for a theme for their upcoming season, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers volleyball program might choose “New Era.”
It is a new era because for the first time in the six-year history of the program somebody besides Sharon Peacock will be calling the shots from the bench. Peacock stepped away earlier this summer in order to take a teaching job at Jefferson Davis Community College. Former Brewton Middle School coach Greg White moved up to the high school level take Peacock's place.
White inherits a squad that went 17-13 last year, set a school record 11-game winning streak and advanced to within a game of its first state tournament appearance.
Although T.R. Miller returns four players who started either full-time or part-time last year, White has several questions to answer about his lineup.
The Lady Tigers will build around middle hitters Brittany Watson, a 5-11 senior, and Michal Hubbard, a 5-10 senior.
Rachel Bostic, a 5-10 senior, and Janel McCorvey, a 5-9 sophomore, also targeted for outside hitter slots.
Morgan Hubbard, a 5-7 junior, returns at one of the setter slots.
Brandi Kennedy, a 5-6 junior, has the early upper hand at the other setter position, but White said Natalie Neal, a 5-6 freshman, is not far behind.
T.R. Miller will look to defend its two-year stint as Escambia County tournament champions this season. The Lady Tigers along with W.S. Neal will also try to unseat defending Class 4A Area 2 Tournament champ Andalusia.
