Web preacher to speak at First United Methodist

One of the 50 Most Influential Christians in America is coming to Brewton.
Dr. Leonard Sweet, author, seminary professor and futurist is speaking at the First United Methodist Church of Brewton, Sunday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. He will discuss ways to grow closer to God through prayer.
Sweet is currently the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, N.J., and the visiting distinguished professor at George Fox University in Portland, Ore.
He is the author of more than 100 articles, 600 published sermons and 50 books, most recently, &#8220The Gospel According to Starbucks.”
On sale at the event will be two books by Sweet that pertain to growing in the life of the &#8220Spirit: Jesus Drives Me Crazy” and &#8220The Jesus Prescription for a Healthy Life.”
Sweet's web-based preaching resource, Wikiletics.com, is the first open-source preaching resource on the World Wide Web. He is the founder and president of SpiritVenture Ministries and is a frequent speaker at conferences and churches in the United States and around the globe.
His current projects include a preaching text titled &#8220Give Blood, The Leadership Myth” (with Joe Myers) and &#8220Pay Attention: Every Bush is Burning.”
