MONROEVILLE— After not scoring an offensive touchdown in their previous game against Escambia County, the T.R. Miller Tigers’ offense scored and scored often Friday night to notch a 35-6 win over Monroe County.
It only took the Tigers four plays into their first offensive series to put points on the board as Matt Lane scored from 36 yards out with 6:50 left in the first quarter.
Four different Tigers found the end zone as the Tigers rolled up 327 yards of total offense, 268 of which came on the ground.
For the Tigers, it was a complete game as the offense put the numbers on the board and the defense was kept the Monroeville squad from putting any numbers on the board. The host Tigers were held to only nine first downs and 122 total yards. The only points that were scored for Monroeville was a fumble recovery in the end zone with 9:05 left in the game.
After forcing a nine-yard Monroeville punt on the first series of the game, T.R. Miller set up shop at their own 38-yard line.
After two quick first downs to move the ball into Monroe County territory at the 36-yard line, Matt Lane took the handoff and rushed 36 yards to give the Tigers of Brewton and early touchdown with 6:50 left in the first quarter. A Chris Griffin extra point gave Miller a 7-0 lead.
Monroeville put together a nice drive on their next series as they moved the ball into T.R. Miller territory before a fumble by quarterback Grant White was recovered by the Tigers at their own 36-yard line. T.R. Miller was unable to move the chains as Seth Holland was forced to make his only punt of the night, a 42-yard punt that pinned Monroeville at their own 25-yard line.
After a quick three and out forced by the Miller defense, T.R. Miller used eight plays to move to the Monroeville 25-yard line. On fourth-and-10 from the Miller 25-yard line, quarterback Wil Riggs connected with Seth Holland in the middle of the field for a touchdown the give T.R. Miller a 14-0 lead with 9:55 left in the game.
After another quick three and out, T.R. Miller was able to get good field position after a 25-yard Monroeville punt to set up shop at their own 46-yard line with 7:52 left in the half. T.R. Miller then used a 10-play drive to go ahead 21-0 after an eight-yard touchdown by Cortez Banks with 3:28 left in the half.
After a Manuel pass to Grant White moved the ball to the T.R. Miller six-yard line in the fourth quarter, Manuel fumbled and was recovered by Matt Watts of T.R. Miller at their own three-yard line.
But a quick T.R. Miller fumble in the end zone was recovered by Monroeville’s Joseph Gary to give Monroeville their only points of the night. The extra point was blocked by Miller’s special teams, giving the T.R. Miller Tigers a 35-6 lead with 9:05 left in the game. That would be the final points on the night as T.R. Miller went on to win 35-6. With the loss, Monroeville dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in region play.
After concluding the first part of region schedule, T.R. Miller will take on Straughn next Friday night in non-region play. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
