In what proved to be a defensive struggle, the W.S. Neal B team played Escambia County to a 6-6 tie Monday night at W.S Neal.
After an early score by the Blue Devils and a failed two-point conversion, Escambia County took a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Escambia County seemed ready to score again right before halftime after moving the ball down to the Blue Eagle nine yard line to set up first-and-goal. The Blue Devils were unable to punch the ball into the end zone due to the tough W.S. Neal defense and turned the ball over on downs at the 15-yard line. The Blue Eagle offense could not manage any points before halftime as the 6-0 Escambia County lead held at the half.
W.S. Neal looked ready to put some points on the board in the third quarter, but W.S. Neal quarterback Donald Peacock had his third down pass intercepted and returned 43 yards to the W.S. Neal 20-yard line. After moving the ball to the Neal eight-yard line to set up first a goal, miscues on offense moved the ball back to set up a fourth-and-goal from the Blue Eagle 21-yard line before a Tra Dixon interception ended any scoring threats for Escambia County.
After the interception, W.S. Neal was aided by a 55-yard run from T.J. Taylor to move the ball to the Blue Devil 21-yard line setting up a Peacock pass to Cody Brown tying the game at 6-6 midway through the fourth quarter. Neither teams added any more points as the game ended in a 6-6 tie.
Peacock was eight-for-14 on the night with 99 yards and one interception. T.J. Taylor led the Blue Eagles in rushing with 50 yards on six carries followed by Fred Wood’s 38 yards on seven carries.
The Blue Eagles will be back in action next Monday when they will take on T.R. Miller. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
