While we have just reached the half waypoint of the 2007 season of football, I thought it would be interesting to look at the history of our two area teams. According to the website ahsfhs.org, the Alabama High School Football Historical Society, they have some interesting historical facts about T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal.
For T.R. Miller, they have the Tigers first team as being organized in 1922. T.R. Miller’s overall record is 579-276-22. (Remember, this is according to the website and they say that the records and facts they have could be different depending on missing records and scores.)
Miller is accredited to having six state championships and 16 area or region titles. Miller’s overall playoff record includes a 75-21 record with 27 appearances. So far, in the 2000’s - including the four games this year as of press time - Miller is 83-17, which ranks 16th overall right now according to winning percentages. T.R. Miller was the winningest team in the 1990’s with a record of 117-19 and is currently the all-time winningest team in the state overall according to winning percentages with a 578-273-22 record and a 67.9% (as of the end of the 2006 season).
For W.S. Neal, their first team was in 1940. Their overall record is 371-301-10 with no state championships.
Neal’s region and area record is 71-59 with an overall playoff record of 14-18 with 18 appearances.
W.S. Neal’s record so far in the 2000’s has 48 wins and 33 losses which ranks 104th according to winning percentages.
