While football is continuing to trek on and playoff scenarios are beginning to take shape, I wanted to take a chance to let our area sports fans know that the volleyball season for W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller is coming to an end and tournament play is coming up.
Right now W.S. Neal is 8-4 and T.R. Miller is 10-6.
Next Saturday will be the Escambia County Tournament. All four county teams – T.R. Miller, W.S. Neal, Flomaton and Escambia County – usually take part in a county tournament in all sports, and on Oct. 13, the volleyball squads will get together at W.S Neal High School for a 10 a.m. start.
"Escambia County has pulled out of the tournament this year so we are just going to have a best two out of three with the remaining three teams playing each other once," W.S. Neal head coach Britney Shelly said.
T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal will get things started at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by T.R. Miller and Flomaton playing the second game and W.S. Neal against Flomaton in the last game.
Games two and three will start approximately 10 minutes after the previous game.
Also, the area tournament for W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller will be played the following Tuesday, Oct. 16, at T.R. Miller.
T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal will start the tournament at 3:30 p.m., with the winner scheduled to take on Andalusia at 5 p.m.
I know this is a little early with both teams still having two to three games still on the schedule, but I wanted to go ahead and get the word out. T.R. Miller will close out its regular season schedule with a home game against Clarke County on Oct. 11.
W.S. Neal will also close out its home schedule on that day with senior recognition against Central.
On a different note, I want to thank the people who have sent in suggestions for a trophy idea for the upcoming Battle of Murder Creek. I will still be accepting any ideas, so e-mail or call if you have any thoughts.
Good luck to all area teams this week and until Wednesday, God Bless!
