The BMS Tigers Junior Varsity football program traveled to Walnut Hill, Fla., Thursday night to square off against the Earnest Ward Eagles.
The seventh-grade team opened the night with an 8-0 win.
A dominating defensive performance by the BMS seventh-graders resulted in a total offense of minus 4 yards for Earnest Ward in the 15-minute quarter played by the seventh-grade squads.
Offensively, BMS racked up 112 total yards, with Jamal "Bay" Spears gaining 100 yards on seven carries to lead the Tigers.
Spears capped off the Tigers opening drive with a 12-yard touchdown run, then punched in the two-point conversion on a handoff from quarterback Kevin Davis.
The full BMS JV squad then played and delivered an 8-0 win.
Again, defense was the order of the game, and Austin Land set the tone early when he picked off an Earnest Ward pass.
The Tigers won the defensive battle giving up 133 total yards to Earnest Ward, while the BMS offense accumulated 149 yards of total offense.
Quarterback Conner Denton led the offense with 60 yards rushing on 11 carries, while going 2-for-4 in the passing department.
After three scoreless quarters, the Tigers finally found the end zone when Denton bolted around the end for a 10-yard touchdown run with 5:21 left in the fourth.
Denton then found Darrian Salter in the end zone for a completed pass and the two-point conversion.
Kameron Winn rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries for the Tigers, and Devante Johnson had 36 yards on eight carries. The win moved the Tigers to 2-2, with three games remaining.
Next week will be an off week for BMS, and then they will face Monroe County Oct. 11 at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
