Workshops, lectures and conferences will give Brewton and Escambia County parents an opportunity to learn more about their children’s education Monday as schools celebrate statewide Parenting Day.
The theme for the 2007 event is “Parents: The Link to Success.”
Since students have been in school for nine weeks, it is an opportune time to evaluate their progress, Marriott said.
The Alabama State Board of Education said it seeks to emphasize the importance of parents and the community in the overall success of public schools by designating October as Statewide Parent Visitation Month.
Although the event is considered a month-long observation, area schools have chosen one day to focus on a time for parents to learn how to become more involved in the education of their children.
Marshall said the annual event also provides an opportunity for parents, teachers and administrators to open or strengthen lines of communication between those responsible for teaching children.
