TRM boys, girls finish in top 10 at Great Muddy

The T.R. Miller cross-country team competed in the Great Muddy Classic this past Saturday in Mobile.
The boys team finished in 10th place and the girls earned an eighth place finish.
For the boys, Geoff Youngblood came in first for the Tigers as he placed 39th overall with a time of 19:26. Teammate Brandon Nelson was right behind, as he placed 40th with a time of 19:27. Cole Pruitt placed 54th for the Tigers with a time of 20:35.90 as Tyler Parker finished 63rd for Miller with a time of 20:55. Taylor Terry rounded out the top-five finishers for T.R. Miller with a 69th place finish with a time of 22:10. Jeff Gill placed 74th with a time of 24:23.
For the girls, Crystal Higdon led the Tigers with a 27th place overall finish with a time of 23:09.98. Amber Nelson was next as she placed 45th overall with a time of 25:49.20 and Shelby Youngblood placed 46th with a time of 25:49.20. Taylor Guthrie and newcomer Abby Carlson finished 53rd and 54th respectively as the Tigers were able to compete as a team for the first time as they had five members running. Guthrie’s time was 30:17.82 and Carlson’s time was 30:26.16
On Monday, both teams competed at Northview High School in Bratt, Fla. The boys tied with Jay, but took second place after jay was awarded the tiebreaker for their sixth runner. The girl’s team also came in second. Corey Cunningham placed 5th overall and first for Miller with a time of 18:36. Brandon Nelson placed 6th overall with a time of 18:37. Geoff Youngblood came in 8th with a time of 19:15 as Tyler Parker posted his best time of the year with a time of 20:07 earning him 9th place. Cole Pruitt and Taylor Terry rounded out the Tigers with a time of 20:11 and 21:47.
For the girls, Amber Nelson came in first with a time of 21:51. Shelby Youngblood placed 2nd with a time of 21:58. Crystal Higdon placed 4th for Miller with a time of 22:54 and Taylor Guthrie placed 14th with a time of 27:07. Abby Carlson placed 16th for the Tigers in just her second race of the year with a time of 31:15.
The Tigers will race next in Auburn. That race will be their last race until sectionals in November.
