Last year they ended an 11 game losing streak to T.R. Miller as they picked up their first win in the rivalry since 1996. This year, the W.S Neal Eagles will try to defeat the Tigers of Brewton again and pick up a chance to make the playoffs.
Last week, W.S. Neal (4-4 overall, 3-3 class 4A region one) suffered a 30-0 loss to Jackson at home that put the Eagles in a must-win situation to set up a three-way tie to make the playoffs.
This week, archrival T.R. Miller will come to W.S. Neal Stadium as the annual Battle of Murder Creek will be played.
T.R. Miller comes into the game a totally different team than the one that started the season with a 36-7 home loss to Clarke County.
Matt Lane (5-9, 165 lb. junior), Cortez Banks (5-8, 158 lb. sophomore), and David Ikner (5-6, 145 lb. freshman) have been the workhorses in the running game for Miller.
Lane has totaled 645 yards on the season as Banks has 426 and Ikner has 129 yards.
While a lot of people have asked him about last years win and how it will affect his team this year, Hathcock believes both teams are different than last year’s squads.
The Battle of Murder Creek will begin at 7 p.m. at W.S. Neal Stadium in East Brewton.
