Mr. Charles Leslie Evans Sr., 77, died Monday, Oct. 29, at his residence. He was a native and long time resident of the Brewton area. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He was retired from the Escambia County School System and had worked for D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital for 10 years. He was a member of May Creek Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy J. Evans; two brothers. Rankin Evans and Rufus &#8220Jiggs” Evans Jr. who was killed in World War II; and a sister, Jean Maxwell of Hattisburg, Miss.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Evans of Brewton; four sons, Stephen W. (Roberta) Evans and Darrell Evans, both of Brewton, Charles Leslie Randi) Evans of Spanish Fort, James Evans of Gautier, Miss. and Rufus (Carrie) Evans III; two daughters, Nellie Johnson of Brewton, and Betty Jo (Ernie) Edeker of Evergreen; a brother, John Marshall Evans of Panama City, Fla.; one sister, Julia E. McClure of Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Craver's Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 1, at 10:30 a.m. from the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with Dr. Frankie Phillips and the Rev. Floyd Dyal officiating. Burial will follow at May Creek Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors with Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Ralph Burnham, Roy Burnham, Dwayne Burnham, Donald Dawkins, Gary Dawkins, and Miles Ball.
