The Brewton Public Library works hard to upgrade and add to the 45,000 books in the system.
Library employees are constantly trying to keep up with what the public demands, Director Brooke Walker said - and that sometimes means more than books. A couple of aisles are devoted to VHS tapes and DVDs library patrons can check out, just as they can books.
United Fund money helps pay for many of the library's upgrades.
Pat Hetzel works with the Escambia County Cooperative Library System, another United Fund agency.
Hetzel said she enjoys being able to serve the public.
The Escambia County Cooperative Library System provides for the Books by Mail program which annually sends out more than 6,000 books to rural and homebound residents in this area.
The United Fund is under way, and the goal has been set at $90,000. The United Fund gives more than 99 cents of every dollar it raises to the 16 member agencies. That means that the money that is given in Brewton will stay in Brewton, benefiting those in our own area. The fund drive will end in mid December. If you would like to donate, send your donations to United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton, P.O. Box 34, Brewton, 36427.
