Monday's game was a totally different game and atmosphere than the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers' season opening win Friday night against Northview.
The Lady Tigers trailed from the opening minutes of the game and lost their first game of the season 59-28 to Pensacola at home.
T.R. Miller was down 12-0 before they scored their first points in the game at the 5:10 mark in the first quarter and was down as many as 32 points at one point in the game.
Jackson also said his team did not do the “little things” to win the game.
From the opening tip to the final buzzer, Pensacola was ahead the game.
After taking an early 2-0 lead with 7:46 in the game, Pensacola gave the T.R. Miller offense fits and caused turnovers as the visiting Lady Tigers took a 10-0 lead with 5:58 in the first.
After a T.R. Miller turnover on the inbound pass, Pensacola took a 12-0 lead with 5:38 as Miller got their first points of the game with 5:10 as they cut the Pensacola lead to 12-2.
Pensacola would take a 15-2 lead with 4:07 as Nakiya Smith scored for the Tigers to make the Pensacola lead 15-4.
Pensacola added to their lead by 19-5 with 1:12 as a Miller basket with 45 seconds cut the lead to 19-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The T.R. Miller offense continued to struggle in the second quarter as they only scored two points in the quarter courtesy of Kesha Peterson as Pensacola held a 31-8 lead at the half.
After connecting on the first points in the third quarter to cut the Pensacola lead to 31-10, T.R. Miller looked like they were ready to mount a comeback as they stole the ball on Pensacola's first offensive series, but the Lady Tigers of Brewton continued to not score points and turn the ball over as the Lady Tigers of Pensacola stretched their lead to 43-12 with 3:19 left in the quarter.
Briana Gatlin got the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers within 45-15 and Desiree Gibbs got the Tigers to 45-17 as Pensacola held the lead at the end of the third quarter.
Nakiya Smith would score for the Tigers to open up the fourth quarter as Miller cut the lead to 45-19 with 7:36 left in the game and Gatlin would get the Tigers to 45-21 with 6:23 left, but Pensacola calmed the Miller scoring down as they took a 49-21 lead as the Tigers of Brewton would only get seven more points in the quarter and Pensacola would go on for the win 59-28.
T.R. Miller will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Mobile to take on the UMS-Wright Bulldogs.
Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
