Still time to shop at home for holidays

If you are already finished with your Christmas shopping, most of us don't want to hear from you.
But if you're like the majority of folks, you probably have a few - or a lot - of gifts left to buy before Dec. 25.
Downtown Brewton merchants have a great way for you to get your holiday shopping in the bag, so to speak, and help our community as well.
We can't have enough reminders this Christmas season - or anytime during the year - how important it is to shop at home. The sales tax revenue generated by local sales helps power our local government and all of the services the city provides.
Also, the money that goes to local businesses stays in our community when it circulates to other businesses for goods and services. That keeps our economy going strong.
Those are great reasons to go shopping Thursday evening at the downtown businesses' second open house and sale event. And who ever really needs a reason to go shopping?
Downtown businesses will be offering special sales and promotions, serving beverages and holiday goodies and providing entertainment from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
The first downtown holiday preview sale before Thanksgiving drew so many people downtown for shopping and for fellowship. It was a reminder how important our downtown is to the center of our community's retail life, but it was also an opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors.
We hope more people will join the crowds Thursday to give back to the community and enjoy each other's company.
