Mrs. Ora Lee Johnson Carpenter, 89, of Bonita Avenue in Brewton, died Friday, Dec. 7. 2007 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Conecuh County and a former resident of Grenada, Miss., and Pensacola, Fla., before moving to Brewton 19 years ago. She owned and operated Lady Leigh Fashions in Pensacola and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Carpenter Sr.
She is survived by one sister, Evelyn Riley of Brewton; six nieces, Deranda Granade of Arkaldelphia, Ark., Melanie Hines and Annette Cave, both of Brewton, Willene Salter and Louise Davis of Burnt Corn, and Sandra Johnson of Evergreen; three nephews, Murray Johnson of Atmore, Charles Johnson of Monroeville and Douglas Johnson of Andalusia.
Celebration of Life services were held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Brewton with the Rev. Jack Fitts officiating. Burial was held in the Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen with Williams Memorial Chapel funeral home in charge of arrangements.
