Brewton area residents will be up late New Year's Eve as the Blueberry Drop gets under way in downtown Brewton at 8:30 p.m.
The night will be full of music and fun as everyone gathers in Burnt Corn Creek Park for the annual celebration.
The idea for the drop came about when Mayor Ted Jennings' daughter, Molly Ruzic, was in Atlanta and saw the Peach Drop in Underground Atlanta, Jennings said.
The city has planned a fun night for all, City Clerk John Angel said.
The spotlight will be turned on the cluster of blueberries at the top of the message center at 11:55 p.m. when the air will be full of ‘Blueberry Hill,' Angel said.
Ruthie Cooper, who supervises D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital's Relay for Life team, said they will have hospital employees at the drop with goodies for sale.
WKNU radio will be broadcasting on-site at the event, Carol Ellington said.
Brewton Police are ready and making their plans for the activities, Chief Monte McGougin said.
