Lady Tigers drop two

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers continued their recent struggles in the Pensacola Catholic Robert Burke Classic as they fell to 5-4 on the season with a 54-17 opening round defeat to Washington and a 69-34 defeat to Pine Forest of Florida.

Lately for the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers, it has been defense that they have used to dominate opponents.
On Thursday night in the Robert Burke Classic at Catholic High School in Pensacola it was the opposite.
Washington took a page from the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers' book and used it against them as the Tigers fell 54-17 to drop them to 5-3 overall on the season.
The Lady Tigers were shut out in the first quarter 14-0 and trailed at the half 28-4.
T.R. Miller was kept off the scoreboard until 7:28 left in the second quarter when Ashley Williams scored two points for the Tigers.
Kesha Peterson was the leading scorer for the Tigers as she finished with six points.

Friday's Robert Burke Classic game at Pensacola Catholic against Pine Forest probably felt more like de ja vu for the Lady Tigers.
It had the beginnings of Thursday night's loss to Washington and the score ended up about the same as the Lady Tigers dropped their second game in the classic 69-34 to fall to 5-4 on the season.
The Tigers closed on the tournament Saturday night against Pensacola Catholic. See Wednesday's Brewton Standard for those game results.
After falling behind quickly 7-0 with 6:43 left in the first quarter, the Lady Tigers were able to get on the board at the 6:28 mark when Kesha Peterson got two points for the Tigers.
Pine Forest then rushed out to a 13-2 lead and then a 17-4 lead as the Tigers were unable to get the ball on there side of the half court line as Pine Forest caused the Lady Tigers fits all night on offense.
Pine Forest held a 25-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers were able to close the gap to 27-15 with 2:44 left in the second quarter, but Pine Forest went on a 10-0 run to end the quarter and hold a 37-15 lead at the half.
Pine Forest continued their offensive ways to start the second half as they built a 45-15 lead over the Tigers courtesy of an 8-0 run.
The Tigers were able to get on the board at the 4:06 mark to end the run when Kesha Peterson scored. The Lady Tigers were able to only score 10 points in the quarter as Pine Forest held a 55-25 advantage heading into the last quarter of play.
The fourth quarter was not any better for the Lady Tigers as they fell behind by as many as 34 points as Pine Forest rolled to the 35-point win, 69-34.
Kesha Peterson led the Tigers for the second night in a row in points as she totaled 11 for the game.
Following Saturday night's tournament finale for the Lady Tigers, they will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 3, when they travel to Evergreen to take on the Hillcrest Jaguars.
This will be the first area game for the Tigers. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
