Retail business during the holidays has been brisk, local store officials said - and they said gas prices may be partially responsible for the “shop at home” attitude customers took when shopping for Christmas gifts and decorations.
The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce also saw several busy days leading up to the holiday, administrative assistant Michelle Jones said.
Peebles in the Douglas Square shopping center was on the receiving end of many of the chamber-issued certificates, store manager Shalon Riddle said.
Gift cards were also a popular item with many shoppers this season, Riddle said.
Downtown businesses participated in two holiday events, which helped businesses see a better bottom line in sales, Grosso said.
A second downtown event was held just two weeks before Christmas with businesses experiencing a large volume of customers during that time, Grosso said.
Area retailers have seen fewer returns after Christmas. Returns have been slow at Peebles, Riddle said.
