The presence of family and friends along with employees of NDI Inc. was a surprise Monday, as Carol Gordy entered the break room of the facility she owns.
Gordy, who recently completed her tenure as chairman of the Business Council of Alabama, was honored for her work with the organization by four officials during the surprise presentation ceremony.
“Carol was the first female chairman of the BCA, and she did an excellent job,” U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner said. “She is an example of the very best of America.”
Bonner commended Gordy for her community work and efforts in Brewton and in Alabama.
State Rep. Alan Baker, R-Brewton, also presented a certificate to Gordy during the presentations.
Gordy was further surprised when a special presentation was made by Renee Jones, director of the Escambia County Humane Society.
Jones related information concerning the establishing of a special program designed to assist with spaying and neutering in Escambia County.
Jones said the leading cause of death in animals is euthanasia while in a shelter environment. The program named for Gordy's pet will move to help eliminate that statistic in Escambia County, Jones said.
