Brewton residents can expect to see even more activity at the Brewton Airport in the coming year as Naval Air Station Whiting Field steps up training on new aircraft.
Whiting Field Commanding Officer Capt. Enrique Sadsad visited the Brewton City Council last week to explain the upcoming changes at the naval facility.
As the Navy switches from T-34Cs - turbo-prop powered aircraft - to newer T-6As, Whiting Field will begin to incorporate those new aircraft into pilot training. That training is scheduled to begin in November, Sadsad said.
Whiting Field uses the Brewton Airport as part of its pilot training activities.
Sadsad told council members he is pleased with the relationship the naval air station has with surrounding communities, including Brewton.
