An East Brewton man who went missing Jan. 4 was found dead near Evergreen Thursday morning, police confirmed.
Jerome Thomas, 49, had reportedly been seen a few times in the Evergreen area since he left home earlier this month.
East Brewton police said Thursday afternoon that an autopsy is pending, but they did not initially suspect foul play in Thomas' death. The Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Conecuh County Sheriff's Office and Evergreen police are also involved in the investigation.
Although Thomas, who was a client with the Southwest Alabama Mental Health Board, has ventured from home before, he has never been away for such a long period of time, his wife Willodean said Tuesday.
