Mr. Leon Thomas Jernigan, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at a Pensacola hospital after an extended illness. He was a native and long-time resident of Brewton and was a retired carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Taffy Jernigan.
He is survived by his wife, Ruella Massingill Jernigan of Brewton; two sons, Tommy (Sharon) Jernigan and Robert (Kathy) Jernigan, both of Brewton; two daughters, Mary (Jack) Cain and Pat Parker, both of Brewton; three sisters, Cora Lee Stallnaker of Booker, Fla., Doris Crutchfield of Bothell, Wash., and Voncile Ellis of Brewton; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Garrett and the Rev. Jack Fitts officiating. Burial followed at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
