Chamber helps welcome GP

Brewton area business leaders welcomed Georgia-Pacific to the community Thursday night with a Business After Hours event at the Country Club of Brewton.
The Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event.
Georgia-Pacific took over the Smurfit-Stone container mill in Brewton last fall. The mill, which has changed corporate ownership more than once, is in its 50th year in Brewton.
The Brewton mill has an annual production capacity of about 300,000 tons of white top linerboard and 190,000 tons of solid bleached sulfate.
Georgia-Pacific bought the mill for $355 million in an asset sale last fall.
The Atlanta-based GP produces building products, tissue, packaging, paper, cellulose and related chemicals.
Brand-names name by Georgia-Pacific include Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, Soft'N'Gentle, Brawny, Sparkle, Mardi Gras and So-Dri.
