T.R. Miller defeats rival W.S. Neal 46-8 to advance in area tournament

Runs of 6-0 and 13-0 in the first, scoreless in the second quarter while enduring a 14-0 run and only one point in the fourth quarter.
That is what the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles endured Thursday night at T.R. Miller gymnasium as they were pounded by the Lady Tigers 46-8 in the opening round of the class 4A area two tournament.
They were outscored by 16 points in the first quarter, 13 in the second quarter, one in the third and eight in the fourth en route to the 38-point Lady Tiger win.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 17-4 on the season and faced Andalusia Saturday for the area championship. Andalusia defeated Hillcrest 43-41 to open the tournament. The score of that game was unavailable at press time.
W.S. Neal ended their season with a 7-17 record.
Nine Lady Tigers scored in the win. Kesha Peterson led with 12 points. Rachel Davis led the Lady Eagles with 4 points in the game.
In the game Thursday night, the Lady Eagles of East Brewton struck first with a free throw from Davis to take an early 1-0 lead a minute into the game. From that point, the Lady Tigers went on a 6-0 run to take a 6-1 lead at the 4:49 mark.
Peterson and MyNetra Boley both scored for the Tigers in the run.
Another Davis free throw brought the Lady Eagles within 6-2 at the 4:26 mark, but a 13-0 run by T.R. Miller gave the Lady Tigers a 19-2 lead with 1:52 left in the first quarter.
Six Lady Tigers scored in the run as Peterson, Janel McCorvey, Zykeya Barton, Briana Gatlin, Leah Brundidge and Keydra Shedrone all scored.
Davis added her fourth point in the first quarter at the 1:27 mark as she had all the points in the quarter for W.S. Neal and ended the 13-0 run at the 1:27 mark bringing the Lady Eagles within 19-4.
Gatlin would hit one of two free throws at the 1:12 mark as the Lady Tigers held 20-4 first quarter lead.
The second quarter was all T.R. Miller Lady Tigers as they carried the momentum into the quarter and carried the run to a 14-0 run in the second quarter and held the Lady Eagles scoreless as they built a 33-4 lead at the half.
Peterson, McCorvey, Boley, Barton and Gatlin all scored for the Lady Tigers in the quarter.
In the second half, only seven points were scored in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth as T.R. Miller held a 37-7 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Katie Elliott hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Eagles in the third quarter.
In the fourth, Miller outscored W.S. Neal 9-1 in the quarter to take the 46-8 win.
TRM 57, Flomaton 26
In a game Monday against the Flomaton Hurricanes, the Lady Tigers held the Canes scoreless in the first quarter while scoring 14 points to take an big lead early defeated Flomaton 57-26.
T.R. Miller scored 14 points in the first three quarters and 15 in the fourth while holding Flomaton scoreless in the first and to five in the second, 10 in the third and 11 in the fourth.
Peterson led the Tigers with 14 points and Shedrone added 10 for the Lady Tigers.
