Democrats set qualifying dates

The Escambia County Democratic Executive Committee has set qualifying dates and qualifying fees for county offices that are up for election this year.
Six county offices will be on the ballot this year: Tax Assessor; Tax Collector; County Commission Districts 2 and 4; and county school board districts 1 and 5. The dates for qualifying are March 12 at 8 a.m. through March 27 at 5 p.m.
The qualifying fee for County Commission is $500, and the qualifying fee for County School Board is $150. The qualifying fees for Tax Assessor and Tax Collector are $1,500.
Qualifying forms and fees must be filed and paid with Reo Kirkland Jr., chairman of the Escambia County Democratic Executive Committee in Brewton.
All candidates for county offices must also comply with the Fair Campaign Practices Act and the ethics commission laws of the state of Alabama by filing the appropriate papers with Escambia County Democratic Committee chairman, the Escambia County Probate Office at the courthouse in Brewton and the Ethics Commission in Montgomery at the time of qualifying as a candidate in the Democratic primary.
Any person who wants to qualify for a county office in the Democratic primary who has any questions about the qualifying process may call Kirkland at 867-5711 or the state party at 1-800-995-3386.
Qualifying forms will not be available for county office until after March 4.
Anyone wishing to qualify for state office must qualify with the state party in Montgomery.
Qualifying for state offices in the Democratic primary begins on March 1, after the state party meeting in Montgomery.
The Democratic primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 3, and a run-off Democratic primary election, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, July 15.
The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
