Many workers are always looking for a way to take the day off from work and still get paid.
The Greater Brewton Habitat for Humanity has come up with an idea that should solve that dilemma.
Habitat has asked local businesses to “donate” their employees' time next week during the organization's latest project - building a house in one week.
Several other businesses have volunteered employees or services during the upcoming building period. Habitat is tackling the job of building a home from start to finish in eight days.
The home for the family of Larry and Jennifer Woods is located at 716 Brandenburg St. in East Brewton.
Those who choose to pre-register and dedicate a specific day and time for working may call the GBHFH offices at 867-0095, Glaize said.
Regions Bank will be sending several employees to help on workdays, Glaize said.
Other local banks have joined to provide lunches for volunteers throughout the weeklong building blitz, Glaize said.
Some businesses are unable, for a variety of reasons, to send employees to work extended time at the site, Glaize said.
Habitat friends from across the country are also planning to make a visit to the site during the blitz period, Glaize said.
Widner University in Pennsylvania will have 15 of their students make a trip to East Brewton to help with the project, Glaize said. Volunteers from Pike County will be helping out as well, returning the favor the Brewton group gave during a blitz held near Troy last spring.
And some celebrity building assistants will be making an appearance late in the week, Glaize said.
When the group heard about the building project going on the week before the Brewton Music Festival, they decided to make arrangements to help out, Glaize said.
The building project will begin at 7 a.m. on March 1, with a home dedication for the Woods family to be held March 8.
To volunteer, call the GBHFH offices or register on-line at www.brewtonhfh.org, or simply show up ready to work any day March 1-8, Glaize said.
