Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. Heroes are made when common people do uncommon things that save or change lives forever.
A large group of heroes have come forward to do some uncommon things that will forever change the lives of people who have experienced disaster.
The East Escambia Chapter of the American Red Cross has a group of common people who have stepped forward to become heroes for the benefit of the community the local chapter serves.
From now until mid-March, you'll see uncommon activities in the form of special golf tournaments, car washes, fashion shows, yard sales, basket sales and so much more. The folks who'll be coordinating these uncommon events are the people who have been dubbed heroes by The American Red Cross.
The heroes, in this case, are setting out to raise funds that will benefit members of our community should a disaster strike in their lives. Whether homes are destroyed by fire, tornado or some other catastrophic event, the people who dwell in those homes will be in need of immediate assistance.
That's where the Red Cross comes in, and the heroes you'll see in the next week or so will be doing their part to help meet the needs of those disaster victims.
The “Heroes” will be setting out on a plan to raise $25,000 that will stay in the Brewton and surrounding communities. The funds donated could be the money that helps to provide shelter, clothing, medicine or a hot meal when disaster victims need it the most.
Every common person knows supplying those needs takes much-needed funds. The Heroes will be out in force helping to secure those funds.
Your opportunity to become a hero still exists. You can be dubbed a hero either by volunteering to help in the fund raising project or by donating to the drive.
Either way, you have a chance to become a hero this week. Take the opportunity. The life you change could be your own.
