TRM baseball gets first win

The T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team completed the Escambia County baseball tournament on Saturday with an 0-3 record in the tournament and overall as they lost to Flomaton 9-7 and to W.S. Neal 1-0 in nine innings.
The Tigers were able to post their first win of the young season on Monday when they took a 3-1 victory to improve to 1-3 on the season.
The Tigers will travel to Mobile on Friday to take on UMS-Wright in a double header.
Game time is scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m. in Mobile.

In their second game of the 2008 Escambia County tournament, the T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team dropped to 0-2 on the year and in the tournament as they fell to the Flomaton Hurricanes 9-7.
Starting pitcher for the Tigers John Mathieu took the loss on the mound for the Tigers as he went four innings, allowing 10 hits, seven runs and striking out four.
Sophomore Robert Knowles came in relief of Mathieu and allowed three hits, two runs, two walks and struck out two in two innings of relief.
Derek Busby led the Tigers at the plate as he connected for a 3-run homer in the game and added a double and three RBIs.
Chris Griffin and Wes Dickey added a single each as Seth Holland had a single and an RBI.
Mathieu had two singles and two RBIs as Garrett Robinson added a single for the Tigers,
Flomaton took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and took a 4-0 lead after scoring two more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Tigers were able to break on the board and take their first lead of the year and the tournament as they put up a five-spot in the top of the third to take a 5-4 lead.
Robinson led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch and a double by Dickey put runners at first and third with no outs.
Robinson would get the Tigers on the board after scoring on a pass ball as a Holland single scored Dickey to cut the lead to 4-2.
Busby connected for a 3-run homerun with one out to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead after three innings.
The lead did not last long as Flomaton would score five runs over the course of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 9-5 lead as the Tigers would get two runs from a Mathieu single but was not enough as they fell to 0-2 on the season.

After going winless in their first three games, the Tigers responded on Monday with a 3-1 victory over the Jay Royals in Brewton.
Sam Sharpe went six innings on the mound for the Tigers to get the win as Robert Knowles picked up the save for the Tigers.
Senior Will Waters was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for the Tigers with a 2-run homerun down the right field line as Garrett Robinson's single provided the other RBI for the Tigers.
Sharpe went six innings, allowing one run on six hits and had one strikeout while walking five. Knowles went one inning to earn the save and had one strikeout.
The Tigers got on the board early in the game as Waters connected on a 2-run homerun to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
Waters home run scored Wes Dickey who was hit by a pitch. The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning when Corey Williams reached on a single and stole second base. Williams then reached third on a passed ball as Robinson singled to score Williams to make it a 3-0 Tiger lead.
Jay got on the board in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1, but Sharpe and Knowles held the Royals scoreless the remainder of the game to get the win.
Seth Holland was 1-for-3 in the game with a single as Williams was 2-for-3.
