Scouts earn awards

Cub Scouts from the Long-leaf Pine District, formerly Alabama-Florida District, of the Gulf Coast Council of the Boy Scouts of America met at Our Place in Monroeville on March 8 for the annual district Pinewood Derby.
There were 24 scouts from Pack 224 in Monroeville, Pack 26 in Atmore, Pack 42 in Brewton and Pack 232 in Flomaton. To qualify for the district race, the Cub Scouts placed first, second or third in their pack's pinewood derby in their age group.
In the Tiger division, first-graders, Trevor Holder, Pack 224, won first place, Matthew Harrell, Pack 224 took second and Trenton Smith, Pack 42 finished in third. Cruz Odom, Pack 232 and Mark Hendrieth, Pack 42 also race in this division.
The Wolf division, second graders, was won by Riley Harmon, Pack 232. Dalton Chavers, Pack 42, took second place and Nathan Blackbum, Pack 232, took third place.
Dylan Jones, Pack 26, won the Bear division, third graders. Jack Lowman, Pack 42, won second place and Donny Ellested, Pack 26 finished in third place. Other participants in the division were Daniel McGilberry, Brady Litzinger, Andrew Hornady, all from Pack 224, Harley Fuqua, Chris Guthrie from Pack 42, Gage Hagen, and Chris Maig from Pack 232.
The Webelos Division, fourth and fifth graders, was won by CJ Sizemore, Pack 26, followed by Sam Ellested, Pack 2, in second and Taylor Sargent, Pack 224 took third place. Others that participated in this division was Devante Dailey, Pack 26, Nick Johnson, Pack 224 and Jonathan Wells of Pack 232.
The first place car in each division then raced to determine the Fastest Car in the District. Trevor Holder of Pack 224 won this race.
