Mr. Willie Evans, 83, of Williamson Street, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native and long-time resident of Escambia County. He was a member of East Brewton Baptist Church, a member of American Legion, a member of VFW, DAV, and Air Force Sergeant Association. He was retired from U.S. Air Force with more than 23 years of service and was a retired service officer from Escambia County Veterans Affairs Office with 16 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Smith Evans of East Brewton; a son, James Evans of East Brewton; a daughter, Deborah Evans Knox of Ohio; two step-daughters, Rebecca Carpenter of Oak Grove, Fla., and Debra Willis of Bratt, Fla.; three brothers, Kirby Evans and Bernard Evans, both of Brewton, and James Evans of East Brewton; a sister, Annie Hullett of Jay, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at 2:30 p.m. at East Brewton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Watts and the Rev. Earl Green officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
