An attorney general's decision concerning the use of golf carts in Brewton was a bit confusing, but it basically states that they can't be used on streets or sidewalks.
A group of Brewton residents had asked the council to consider allowing the use of golf carts on streets if they are properly equipped.
Hines read from the conclusion of the attorney general that also stated a golf cart is not a vehicle within the definition of a separate section of the Code of Alabama and, therefore, may not be used to traverse the public streets of a municipality.
Angel said the council has the option to amend the ruling disallowing public driving of the non-vehicle vehicle. However, he said that probably wouldn't come up anytime in the near future.
