Hugh Ezzell

Mr. Hugh Ezzell, 88, died Wednesday April 2, 2008. He was a native of Cartersville, Ga. Upon graduating from high school, he entered the US Navy during World War II and served on the USS Oklahoma. After his discharge from service, he enrolled in Purdue University in Layfayette, Indiana. He married the former Sara Luke of Atlanta, Ga. in 1948. He joined Container Corp. of America and they located to Fernandina  in 1951. In the mid 50's they moved to Brewton, where he was with the Brewton mill. They relocated back to Fernandina Beach in the early 70's and he retired in 1984. He was a member of the Brickyard Hunting Club in Kings Ferry, Fla., and he was a golf course ranger at Amelia Island Plantation for the last 20 years of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Gordon and Ola Denton Ezzell of Cartersville.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sara Luke Ezzell; his son Michael (Janie) Medders of Statesboro, Ga.; his daughter, Jannice McGinnis of Austell, Ga.; his brother, Frank Ezzell of Red Hook, N.Y.; his sister Ruth Faye Ezzell of Powell, Tenn.; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 6, at 2 p.m. in the Burgess Chapel with the Rev. Brett Opalinski officiating. Burial followed at Bosque Bello Cemetery with Oxley-Heard Funeral Home directing.
