Little League begins season in area

On Monday, April 7, the Brewton Little League season began with a game between the Reds and the Blue Jays with the Reds winning 8-5.
Markail Mitchell was 3-for-3 with a single, a walk and a homerun to lead the Reds in the win.
Jordan Williams was 2-for-4 with two singles followed by Will Smith who was also 2-for-4 with two singles.
Jake Najor was 2-for-4 with a single and a double as Christopher Gehman was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Landon Salter was 2-for-3 with one double as Drew Williamson was 1-for-3 with one single.
Jordan Williams was the starting pitcher and had 11 strikeouts as Christopher Gehman picked up the save/ win.
On Thursday, the Reds dropped a 7-4 decision to the Red Sox.
Drew Williamson 1-for-3 with a homerun as Jordan Williams was 2-for-3 with two singles.
Jake Najor was 2-for -3 with a single as Tyler Baxter went 1-for-1 with a single.
Will Smith and Christopher Gehman both pitched in the loss.
East Brewton Dodgers 5, Brewton Angels 4
In another game, the East Brewton Dodgers defeated the Brewton Angels 5-4 in an 11/12-year-old game on Friday night. Dylan Godwin received the win throwing a three hitter through five complete innings, which included 12 strikeouts. Michael Williams came in the sixth inning to earn the save. Darby Black took the loss for the Angels, pitching three complete innings and allowing only one hit. Zac Griffin came in to relieve in the fourth inning for the Angels.
Quantae Barksdale led the Dodgers at the plate going 1-for-3, with a triple, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Dylan Godwin was 1-for-3 with a single and one run scored. Cameron Morris and Robin Swift each had a run scored.
Zac Griffin led the Angels at the plate going 1-for-2, with a double, hit by a pitch and one run scored. Dominique Jackson was 1-for-2, with a single, a walk, a stolen base and one run scored. James Peach was 1-for-3, with a single, two RBI's. Trin Miller was 1-for-1, with a single and one run scored. Marquiese Thomas had one run scored.
The win for the Dodgers improved their record to 2-1 on the year, while the Angels fell to 2-1 on the year.
Brewton Diamondbacks 9, Brewton Pirates 8
The Brewton Diamondbacks squeaked past the Brewton Pirates 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Keion Smith pitched four innings for the win. Dedrion Lee relieved him on the mound in the fifth inning.
Chris Jones took the loss for the Pirates pitching two innings as Caden Lodge came in the third inning, followed by Todd Mayo in the fifth in relief.
Chandler Brown scored on an error in the second starting a rally for the Diamondbacks. A triple in the third by Kieon Smith stretched the lead.
Silas Tucker started the Pirates off in the fourth driving in a single run as Todd Mayo started the fifth off for the Pirates with a single to right field. Josh Bailey, Trey Salter and Patrick Ard all followed his lead. Chris Jones then hit a double to right field to tie the score 7-7 at the top of the fifth.
Todd Mayo then hit an in-the-park homerun for the go ahead run at the top of the sixth inning, but Rob Stokes answered back for the Diamondbacks with his own homerun driving in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Rob Stokes led the Diamondbacks with a homerun, single, two RBIs and a run scored. Chandler Brown was 2-for-2 at the plate with two singles, a walk, one RBI and one run scored. Keion Smith was 1-for-2 with a triple, two walks, one RBI and three runs scored. Dedrione Lee was 1-for-2 with a triple and a hit by pitch. Luke Agerton was 1-for-2 with a single and hit by pitch.
Caden Lodge tried to rally the Pirates going 2-for-3 with two singles, one walk and one run scored. Chris Jones went 2-for-3 with a double, a single and one run scored. Todd Mayo went 2-for-3 hitting a homerun, a single and scoring two runs. Silas Tucker went 2-for-3 hitting two singles. Patrick Ard went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and two runs scored. Ladd Sawyer went 1-for-2 with a single run scored.
