Brewton Elementary School Assistant Principal Saundra Ellis will have a new title beginning July 1.
A selection committee recently completed an application review and interviews with potential candidates for the position of principal at Brewton Elementary School. The committee recommended the board place Ellis in the position.
Ellis was named to the position following a unanimous vote by board members Monday.
Ellis will take over the duties as school principal as current principal, Deborah Marriott, retires.
Ellis began her teaching career 24 years ago beginning with her first position at Brewton Elementary School.
During her time at Brewton Elementary, Ellis taught at several grade levels before moving into administrative positions at the school.
Marriott and Ellis have worked together in administration for the last six years and both said their team has been good for the students.
Ellis said Marriott's administrative techniques have taught her a lot about the position and some of what she can expect as she moves into the role.
Although Ellis expressed her excitement about taking on the role of principal, she said taking the position behind Marriott will be no easy chore.
Ellis praised the staff and faculty at the school and believes her job will be easier because of their goals and expectations for the school.
Ellis won't be the only administrator in her family as of July 1. Her husband, Phillip, is the principal at W.S. Neal High School.
With the Ellis' move to principal, the position of assistant principal will be vacant as of July 1.
