Weekends are usually reserved for cleaning up around the house. This Saturday will be no exception when area residents have a chance to observe Earth Day.
The Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is joining with the cities of Brewton and East Brewton to coordinate efforts for clean up in recognition of Earth Day.
Steve Dunaway, East Brewton Street and Sanitation superintendent, said the trash trucks will be running Saturday.
Dunaway said the East Brewton maintenance shop will be open for those who have some items to drop off.
Tires may be placed in dumpsters being provided by the City of Brewton.
Old batteries may also be disposed of by taking them to Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone or O'Reilly Auto Parts. All three businesses are located on Douglas Avenue in Brewton. The businesses will also be accepting used oil at each of the locations.
Crane said the Jay Road Landfill will be open to the public free of charge from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Old appliances will also be accepted at the landfill during the day, Crane said.

Earth Day is being sponsored locally by the Brewton City Council's Earth Day Committee, the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, and Brewton Youth Leadership Class III.
