The Escambia County Sheriff's Office announced the recent awarding of Homeland Security Grant funds totalling more than $130,000.
We realize grant writing is simply a letter of request asking for funds for any reason. Grant writing requires reserch, validation of facts, detailed documents stating a specific needs, and a detailed, outlined document showing how the funds will be used and managed.
With every agency under the sun in need of additional funding from any source available, competition for grant funds is stiff. Being awarded a grant of any amount is reason enough to celebrate.
We applaude the efforts of those who wrote grant requests on behalf of the Escambia County Sheriff's Department and, ultimately, the citizens of this county.
The funds recently awarded to the department are coming from the Department of Homeland Security. Those funds will be helping to give those who work with the sheriff's department security in their communications which will better equip them to serve the citizens of this county.
Our hat is off to Sheriff Grover Smith for his ability to recognize a need and ask for the assistance to meet that need.
It is our hope that the citizens of Escambia County will be able to appreciate the efforts of those who work behind the scenes at our governmental, law enforcment and other public agencies within the county.
Show your appreciation to those who are spending their time looking out for the best interest of the citizens they were hired to serve.
