Local students receive honors, graduate

Jennifer Stringfield
Jennifer Stringfield of Brewton was inducted into Xi Chapter of Dappa Delta Pi at The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, on April 18, 2008.
Individuals are invited to membership in the largest education honor societies on the basis of high academic achievement, worthy ideals and evidence of leadership attributes.
Stringfield is a graduate of T.R. Miller High School. She is a sophomore at The University of Alabama.
She is the daughter of the daughter of Bill and Laurie Stringfield.
Rebekah Moody
Wingate University senior swimming standout Rebekah Moody added another achievement to a long line of honors on May 10, 2008,
Moody is an NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipient for excelling academically and athletically throughout her career. She is the third Wingate University women's swimming student-athlete to earn an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.
In the spring of 2007, Moody was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women's at large first team.
Moody shared the C.B. and Beadie Haskins Scholarship Award and holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in her elementary education major. In addition, she won the women's swimming team scholar-athlete award for the second year in a row. She has excelled in her swimming athletic programs all through her college career.
Moody is a member of Alpha Chi and Phi Eta Sigma national honor societies and has served in civic organizations as well as her athletic programs.
Moody graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in elementary education from Wingate University at Wingate, N.C.
She is the daughter of Ron and Cinda Moody of Grovetown, Ga., and the granddaughter of Theresa Moody of Brewton, Pat and Bernie Lanheim of Salem, Va.
Christopher Beard
Louisiana Tech's spring quarter commencement exercises were held May 17, with diplomas awarded to 781 graduates.
Commencement marked the close of spring quarter activities with summer quarter classes to begin May 29.
Christopher A. Beard of Brewton earned a bachelor of science mechanical engineering and graduated magna cum laude.

Officials with the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind have announced the names of those Brewton students who have earned a position on the school's honor rolls.
Fantasy Poindexter and Kenny Eagan, both of Brewton earned a position on the schools A-B honor roll in their respective divisions.
The school is located in Talladega and educates children in elementary through high school grades.
