Three advance in All Star game

W.S. Neal's William Shell and Tyler Cross and T.R. Miller's Derek Busby were selected to advance to Saturday's next round of the Lion's Club East-West All Star game to be held at Jefferson Davis on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Shell and Busby were selected from over 50 participants in the game on Saturday along with 12 other players. Cross was selected as one of two alternates to form a team of 16 players.
Shell and Cross competed in the game along with teammates Jake Cannon and Tyler Nall of W.S. Neal. Busby played along teammates Chris Griffin, Corey Williams, Will Waters and James Hamric of T.R. Miller. Hamric was unable to play in game due to injury.
All players from W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller competed on the East team against players from the West team. The West team defeated the East team 2-1 and 5-2 in the doubleheader on Saturday.
In game one, Shell got the start on the mound and the no-decision. Shell went two innings and allowed two hits and no runs while striking out one.
Shell had two walks at the plate offensively as Will Waters and Tyler Cross were 1-for-1.
T.R. Miller's Chris Griffin provided the lone RBI in the loss for the East team with a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
In game two, Derek Busby got the start and the no-decision for the East team. Busby went three innings and allowed one hit and four walks and no runs while striking out three.
Cross took the loss as he allowed six hits and five runs in three innings while striking out two.
Shell closed the game allowing two walks and one strikeout in one inning of work.
Offensively, Cannon supplied an RBI fielder's choice in the top of the second inning to score Cross who reached on a fielder's choice.
Shell walked and had a single in the game. Waters reached on a fielder's choice for the East team in the loss.
Teams from the Mobile, Enterprise and Thomasville areas will join the Brewton area team in Saturday's second-round competition. Brewton will face Enterprise at 10 a.m., while Thomasville area faces Mobile at 12 noon. The top players from the two games will return for the 2 p.m. game.
