George Fred Welch

Mr. George Fred Welch, 88, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at a Century, Fla. care center. He was a native of Century, but had resided in Pensacola before returning to the McDavid area to live for 63 years. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corp and was retired from St. Regis Paper Mill where he had worked in the maintenance department. He was a Charter member and deacon of Grace Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Welch and his sister, Olivia Magness.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ernestine “Judy” Welch of McDavid; two sons, George Gary (Lynn) Welch and Billy Welch, both of McDavid; two brothers, Edward Welch of McDavid, and Claude Tommy Welch of Beulah, Fla.; two sisters, Eunice Browning and Ruth McNeil, both of Pensacola; and two grandchildren, Dale Welch of Pensacola, and Lee Welch of McDavid.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home chapel with Brother Willie Oglesbee officiating. Burial will follow at Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Jack Browning, Kit Callahan, Guy Presley, Bo Roberts, Ronnie Welch and Butch Watson.
