Southern Pine Electric Cooperative recently named Julia Lymon as the 2008 recipient of the co-op's $1,000 college scholarship.
The scholarship was provided through the Electric Cooperative Foundation Scholarship program that was created by the electric cooperatives of Alabama in 1997. The purpose of the program is to provide scholarships for post-secondary and vocational education for qualifying high school seniors. Dependents of members of participating cooperatives, such as Southern Pine Electric Co-op, are eligible to apply for the scholarships. This is the eighth year that scholarships were awarded from the fund.
Lymon is the daughter of Southern Pine members Charles and Jeannette Lymon of Atmore. She is a 2008 honor graduate of Escambia County High School.
Lymon plans to attend the University of Montevallo and double-major in journalism and English.
